COVENTRY: Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies are seeking several people following a June 19 sweep of a Loma Drive house where squatters were living with three dogs and multiple cats. The people were not there at that time and deputies contacted an animal rescue service to take the dogs and cats and had three vehicles towed to an impound lot. The residence was secured. The homeowner had contacted deputies after learning someone was living in two rental units without permission. A Point Drive man reported June 19 he discovered items totaling more than $2,500 have been stolen from his home while he was traveling for business. A King Drive woman reported June 23 Jackson Township Police Department advised her they had arrested a man who had one of her checks in his possession and refused to say how he obtained it. She stated she placed it in her mailbox June 13. On the night of June 23, deputies responded to a report that a man was looking into cars in a Manchester Road parking lot and located him. He denied the allegation, was identified and jailed on weapon and drug warrants. A vehicle abandoned at a Swartz Road business was towed to an impound lot June 24. Deputies responded to a Penguin Drive residence June 24 after a property owner reported a tenant who was collecting his belongings became disruptive. Deputies advised both to contact the court regarding any disagreements. On June 24, deputies responded to a reported assault in the parking lot of a Manchester Road bar. An Aurora woman stated she was dancing with her boyfriend when an unknown man assaulted him, knocked him to the ground and left. The victim was treated by EMS. Deputies determined the woman had a court order preventing her boyfriend from being in contact with her. The Portage Lakes Drive man was arrested for violation of a protection order and taken to the Summit County Jail. Neighbors on Greenbay Drive reported June 25 there was activity at a vacant house that had been boarded up after a recent fire. Deputies found three dogs and spoke to a woman who emerged from the house and stated she had permission to care for the owner’s dogs. Deputies reportedly found the house to be in “deplorable” condition and arrested the Barberton woman for failure to control the dogs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputies responded to a report that a man was taking items from a dumpster outside a Swartz Road residence June 25 and throwing them on the lawn. He stated he was scrapping and deputies advised him it was illegal to be on the property without permission. He was taken to jail on a warrant. Suspected narcotics, found in his pocket, were sent to a lab for identification, with additional charges pending those results. On June 25, deputies responded to a Cox Road residence where a woman refused to let her husband into the home. Both stated it was a verbal argument and he left for the night. The owner of a Dorwil Drive home reported June 2 she rented it for one night to a Canton woman who had too many people in the home and she wanted them out. Deputies advised the renter and her guests and they left. Deputies investigated the theft of tire rims from the backyard of a vacant Swartz Road home June 26. Two women called deputies to a South Main Street location June 27 following a road rage incident. The women said a motorist drove past and brandished a gun after they shouted obscenities at him. The man stated he had a gun in the trunk of his vehicle and never showed it to the women, who requested that deputies document the incident. Deputies investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle at a Penguin Avenue home June 27 and collected evidence, including a flashlight and cellphone. A Judy Avenue woman reported receiving harassing phone calls from a Barberton woman June 28. Deputies contacted the Barberton woman, who reportedly agreed to have no contact with the complainant.

GREEN: On June 20, Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle outside a Fortuna Drive residence. An employee of a Massillon Road business reported June 20 someone damaged the building the previous weekend. A Mayfair Road woman reported June 21 someone attempted to purchase a cellphone and bill it to her wireless phone account. Following a traffic stop on Massillon Road June 22, a Massillon Road man was arrested for possession of marijuana. On June 23, deputies advised the owner of an East Turkeyfoot Lake Road business of the city noise ordinance and told him he would be arrested if he continued making noise throughout the night or driving recklessly in the parking lot of a neighboring school. A Hudson woman reported June 24 her wallet was stolen from a national park June 23 and she filed a report with park rangers. She stated she learned June 24 that two people in a black Jeep Cherokee went to the drive-thru lane of her bank’s Massillon Road branch and used her driver’s license in an attempt to cash a check. The teller refused and the two asked for a balance in the victim’s account. The teller responded by giving them a printout of the information, along with the associated Social Security number. The two then drove away without returning the bank’s tube canister. Deputies requested video surveillance from the drive-thru lane, and bank officials told deputies they would have to get a subpoena to get the video. A Delta 77 Drive woman reported June 24 she came home after being away for a few days and found that someone had been inside her home. Nothing was reported missing at the time. On June 25, police reviewed video surveillance that showed a woman attempted to open the door of an apartment on Mayfair Road. A resident stated sandals were stolen from the porch at the time. Following an investigation and assistance from the Jackson Township Police Department, deputies signed a warrant June 25 for the arrest of a Columbus man for the theft of a $258 mower from an Interstate Parkway business June 13. A man reported June 25 he agreed to pay $2,019 for a vehicle to be delivered to a West Airport Drive location from Florida. The driver arrived with the vehicle and asked for the money, plus a $329 brokerage fee, and the buyer refused to pay it. Deputies talked to both, and the driver agreed to deliver the vehicle for $2,019. A woman called deputies to a Landmark Boulevard hotel June 26 for unwanted guests. The two guests agreed to leave, and deputies advised one that she was wanted on warrants by police agencies that declined to pick her up. A Montford Circle man reported June 26 someone stole and forged a personal check and cashed it for more than $2,300. Employees of a South Arlington Road gas station reported June 26 a man was sleeping outside the business and they wanted him to leave. Deputies drove the man to a location to get a ride A neighbor called deputies to a vacant residence on East Turkeyfoot Lake Road June 28 after he saw three men steal items and leave in a blue Buick. A contractor reported June 28 he left several tools inside a locked building on East Turkeyfoot Lake Road and returned to find they had been stolen. Deputies responded to a disturbance at a Massillon Road business June 28, when employees reported a man and woman argued with a manager and the man went around a counter and confronted him. Deputies viewed video surveillance of the incident and advised the customers that the manager wanted them banned from the business.

LAKEMORE: A manager at a Dover Drive construction site reported items were stolen June 26. Police were called to the Wilson Avenue and Church Street area July 2. They determined the incident to be a neighbor dispute, separated both groups and no charges were filed.

NEW FRANKLIN: A State Road man reported three generators were stolen June 16. The man said he took the generators to a mechanic in Atwater and has been unable to contact the mechanic for several months. The man said he does not think the mechanic intends to return the generators, and declined pursuing charges at the time of the report. A Canton man was charged with narcotics possession June 21 after police responded to a traffic crash on Vanderhoof Road June 20. The man was taken to a hospital for injuries. Police found a bag of methamphetamine inside his truck during a tow inventory. A Sonata Avenue man who was arrested for domestic violence June 23 was charged with three counts of violating a protection order June 27. A review of the man’s calls from the Summit County Jail determined he had called the person who had a protection order against him several times. Police attempted to pull over a driver for having no license plate light and a broken rear light June 26 at 2:29 a.m. The driver reportedly slowed and began to pull over to the right shoulder of the roadway and then sped away through the Manchester Road at Vanderhoof Road intersection. The pursuit was terminated two minutes later at the northern city limits as the driver continued northbound on Manchester Road. A Terrace Hills Drive resident was arrested for domestic violence June 27 after allegedly assaulting his father during an argument over medical marijuana. Police issued a domestic violence warrant June 28 for a Renninger Road man who allegedly pushed a woman into a swimming pool. The woman told police she has a protection order against the man. A witness at the scene reportedly confirmed her account. A Dustys Road man was arrested for drunkenness June 30 when police responded to a call of a man seen slumped over in the front seat of his car. An unknown white substance was also found inside the car and sent in for testing.

SPRINGFIELD: A woman reported June 19 her sister used checks from their late father’s checking account without permission in February and March. The women wanted the incidents documented for ongoing civil court proceedings. A woman reported June 20 her watch was stolen from a hotel room May 7 while she was on a date with a person she met on an online dating website. The woman said she initially thought she had misplaced the watch or left it at home and has been unable to contact the person since the date. Also June 20, an Akron woman and a Massillon woman were arrested for drug possession and falsification following a traffic stop for an expired registration on Westview Drive. An Abington Road woman was issued a summons June 20 for a failure-to-appear warrant when police responded to a Canton Road gas station for a report of an intoxicated person. Police found no signs of impairment during that stop. A woman reported the catalytic converter was stolen from her car June 20 while it was parked at a South Arlington Road store. The woman said she parked the car in the lot when she left on a bus for a casino trip and returned to find the converter cut off and stolen. A Canton Road gas station employee reported a man entered the store June 20 and requested seven lottery tickets and a pack of cigarettes. As the employee retrieved the cigarettes, the man reportedly placed the lottery tickets into his pocket, quickly inserted his credit card in the credit card reader for payment but removed it before the transaction was completed and then fled in a blue Dodge Challenger. Police responded June 21 to a report of $829 worth of items stolen from a work site on Munroe Falls Road between June 17 and June 20. The caller said someone cut a lock off of the container in which the stolen items were being kept. The lock was also missing. Also June 21, a man reported putting two checks in his mother’s mailbox on Albrecht Avenue for utility bill and tax payments and later discovered one of the checks had been altered from $54 to $1,554 and cashed. The check was reportedly deposited online to a law firm. Police contacted the law firm, but a company representative denied any knowledge of the check and had no record of its deposit history. The following incidents occurred at a South Arlington Road store: a Barberton man was arrested June 19 for stealing $938 worth of items; and a man stole a bicycle from the store and fled June 21. A Laverne Lane resident reported his ATM card was stolen from his wallet June 21 while he was asleep in his bedroom. The man said he received an alert from his bank that someone tried to use his card at a gas station on East Waterloo Road but the card was denied. The card was then used successfully at an ATM on Canton Road to withdraw $60. Another $660 was later withdrawn from the same ATM and the card was used to purchase s $700 in items online. The man said multiple people were living at his house at the time of the theft. An Akron man was arrested June 21 when police were called to a disturbance at a Mohawk Trail residence. The caller said the man fired a weapon into the air and made suicidal threats before leaving the residence. The man was located at a Margaret Street residence, arrested and taken to the Summit County Jail. An Akron man was arrested for domestic violence June 21 after yelling obscenities and disrupting the public on Lessig Avenue. The man reportedly refused several commands by police to cease his actions before he was placed under arrest. On June 22, police stopped a man and a woman as they were walking on the U.S. 224 access road at Utica Avenue. Both were found to have active warrants and the woman reportedly told police she had ingested approximately 1.5 grams of fentanyl to avoid being found in possession of the drug. EMS took the woman to a hospital for treatment of a possible overdose. The man was given a warning for his warrant. Police also found the couple in possession of needles. Additional warrants were issued against the woman for tampering with evidence and possessing drug abuse instruments. A Toepfer Road resident called police June 22 to report his son was trying to force his way into the home and make it his residence without his permission. The homeowner was advised that if it were deemed that this is not his son’s residence, the homeowner could file trespassing charges, and if the son could provide proof of residency the homeowner would have to go through an eviction process to have him removed.
