"Meta-Horizons: The Future Now", this is the title of the pioneering exhibition, full of technological innovation and contemporary creativity that the Zaha Hadid Architects studio presents in collaboration with Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) of Seoul.Designed by ZHA as a catalyst for the instigation and exchange of ideas and for the exploration of new technologies and media, DDP's Design Museum was opened in 2014 and has become a cultural hub and meeting place in the center of the district of Dongdaemun in the heart of Seoul: what will surprise us about this exhibition dedicated to architecture in the metaverseExploring ZHA's work in multiple fields, from digital technology to artificial intelligence and virtual reality, the exhibition outlines ZHA's recent projects, processes and research that incorporate immersive technologies, participatory design and novel manufacturing techniques. The exhibition details the practice's collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to developing digital design tools and the opportunities made possible when working simultaneously between virtual and physical environments.By building a comprehensive understanding of construction materials and methods, logistics strategies and end-user case studies, the architects at ZHA have developed dynamic models, tools and simulations that allow them to incorporate greater complexity and a range of inputs into their design solutions.Historical and previous knowledge are combined with the ability to analyze the present and define the planning tools of the future.RAS + ZHA: Architecting the Metaverse"Meta-Horizons: The Future Now": this is how the exhibition is structuredThe exhibition is divided into three sections - Innovation, Imagination, Interaction - which provide a framework for exploring the work of the four research teams of ZHA: Computation & Design (ZH CODE); Virtual Reality (ZHVR); Analysis and insights (ZH A + I); Social interaction processes (ZHA Social).INNOVATION: Process & ResearchInnovations in the built environment are driven by ZHA's process and research that harness technologies in a more strategic and sustainable way. This introductory section of the exhibition focuses on collaborations between different disciplines that are based on a research-based approach towards the design process and physical prototyping.Presenting projects along three lines of ongoing research: robotic technologies, folded geometries and digital wood construction, ZHA's expertise in architectural geometry and participatory design enables the firm to provide resource and energy efficient solutions tailored to the individual users.Featured projects in this area include the recently completed Striatus, a 3D printed concrete bridge, and an architectural platform used to create custom modular homes. This platform anticipates the transition to design for manufacturing (DfMA) in which individual choice, functional agility and environmental and economic sustainability create an architecture more suited to the 21st century: full of interaction, rich in experience, focused on user and resource efficient.Striatus © Zaha Hadid ArchitectsIMAGINATION: Design & VirtualThe greater capacity for imagination and communication of the design vision has increased the possibilities of working between the physical and digital realms. The digital realm continues to solidify as an active destination, with the virtual world attracting attendees to connect and exchange in new and exciting ways that integrate with the physical world. In this area, ZHA's recent initiatives in the design of virtual worlds or the Metaverse are exhibited, such as the cyber-urban incubator "Liberland" and "NFTism", a virtual gallery space that explores architecture and social interaction.INTERACTION: Technologies & CollaborationThe continuous development of technologies at all stages of design through to physical implementation continues to provide even greater possibilities for interaction and collaboration using an increasingly sophisticated and well-informed design process. These technologies enhance the seamless user experience through computing, mixed, augmented and virtual physical reality. The projects presented in this area explore new possibilities of interaction developed by ZHVR including 'Project Correl 1.0', a collaborative experiment in multi-presence virtual reality that illustrates the development of complex assemblies within virtual space, in addition to mixed reality ' LOOP 'experiences' NEW WORLDS' which derives from a design simulation created by ZHVR for product testing and design development.Refined for the exhibition by ZHVR in collaboration with L-Acoustics Creations, visitors use HTC headphones to experience an immersive soundscape from artist Halina Rice.RAS + ZHA: 'Architecture of the Metaverse'The exhibition marks the debut of "Architecting the Metaverse", a collaboration between ZHA and Refik Anadol Studio (RAS) at the intersection of architecture, art, technology and artificial intelligence (AI).In keeping with ZHA's vision of creating transformative cultural spaces in sync with their surroundings, RAS reveals its most innovative experiments with architectural data in both the physical and metaverse worlds.Multi-model artificial intelligence algorithms were used to analyze image and script data compiled and composed by ZHA.These algorithms produce complete datasets that represent the firm's portfolio of work.Visitors will experience this work of art within an immersive room, which shows the experimental perspective of the metaverse to come by combining machine learning, artificial intelligence and ZHA's repertoire. “I am thrilled to be returning to our building with this new exhibit.DDP remains one of my favorite projects. The pandemic has accelerated the trend towards virtualization of life and society.Social communication in virtual space is often as productive as it is in physical space, and certainly no less real.ZHA's design repertoire and methodology, and parametricism in general, are well positioned to work with the new design opportunities presented by the Metaverse.
